Windows 10 Creators Update
« on: April 04, 2017, 03:38:49 PM »
Another major update for Windows 10 is almost ready for release. It is called the 'Creators Update', a strange name but there you go. The update is expected to be rolled out in the UK from April 11th onward. The roll-out is likely to be gradual (via Windows Update) to avoid the overload of servers. Let's hope the update goes smoothly for everyone.

More here:
http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/windows-10/creators-update-windows-10-price-release-date-features-11364128833391

I can't easily find the release dates for other parts of the World. Type 'windows 10 creators update release date' into a search engine wherever you live and this should find the information.

Edit: Sorry, I hadn't noticed this has already been posted about. A reminder anyway. :)

It is expected to be release in America, sometime in the month of April 2017. So could be anytime now..

Updated my older Acer today, took about 90 mins start to finish, everything went Ok and all is good. If you go into your update settings there is a link to get the creators update ahead of time, works great. Will do my other PCs later, now I know the update is stable and installs as intended.

I updated by doing a clean installation (downloaded the Media Creation Tool). A bit of a pain to do but the system is all up together again now.

The 'Advanced Text Sizing' function has been removed in this release. I read that 'Winaero Tweaker' includes an adjustment for Windows text sizing but I increased the size of the icon and menu text using a couple of .reg files available from the Windows Ten Forums. I don't know why the function was removed from the user interface. Another tool for doing the job can be found here:

The Control Panel also appears to have been removed at first glance. It is still there though and possible to put a shortcut to it on the Taskbar. Instructions can be found about how to put it back on the Win-X menu (where it was before the Creators Update) on the Windows Ten Forums.

I installed it yesterday which was when it killed my mouse...   at least I'm assuming that's what did it, other than that everything went well..  it did take a long time.

I suppose at least they aren't too expensive. Was it a very old one? If you do a search for issues that arise as a result of updating to this release, there are some listed with the mouse. Maybe it doesn't matter now that you have a new one but out of interest...

No, about a year or so.  When it quit working I tried the mouse from my laptop, it fried that one too..    now neither of them work on my desktop or laptop so have to buy a second one this week.

You're sure hard on them poor mice.   :coffeetime:   I always keep a couple corded ones around "just in case", but we have a couple wireless mouse/keyboard combos and they have worked great without any problems.

I might have an old corded one around somewhere...    probably never find it now.  :)-    I got a mouse on sale $15.00 but it's a bit small for my hand, but I can live with it.
